What is a "Smart Listing" and what makes it so smart?

Smart listings take the idea of a business directory, and then adds computer processing power to make the listings more useful to both consumers and businesses.
Consumers can search based on location, type of business, then do "deep dive" searches to find exactly what they want. Smart listings makes it easy to get in touch with the business as well.
Businesses benefit from listings that can be targeted at the specific audience they are best suited for, and then measure how effective they are. Smart listings go much further, by also helping to increase the business web presence overall.

What is MetaRank?

MetaRanking is one of the proprietary smart technologies that WebSortings has developed to make business directories more useful. The MetaRanking process collects and extracts data from a variety of sources, then runs some computer processing transformations to distill the data down to a single indicator. In addition to page strength, MetaRanking also takes market position, business practices, and other reference data into account.
To explain in more detail, one component of the process is page strength. Probably the most widely known page strength measurement is done by Google, and is known as PageRank. Its roots come from bibliometrics research in academia. The formula takes into account all of the pages that link to a site, as well as, the authority of those pages. To oversimply, the more strong pages that link to your site, the stronger your site is.
